Authorized conformity assessment by TÜV Rheinland for smooth customs clearance in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Conformity Assessment Enterprise (ECAE) has implemented the Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) program to strengthen import control and ensure that products entering Ethiopia comply with mandatory national standards and technical regulations. Introduced under the mandate of the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MOTRI), the program aims to protect consumers, safeguard public health and the environment, and prevent unsafe, counterfeit, or substandard goods from accessing the Ethiopian market.

Under this program, exporters of regulated products to Ethiopia are required to have their goods inspected, tested, and verified for conformity in the country of export prior to shipment. The PVoC program covers a wide range of product categories and requires the issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) by an ECAE-authorized inspection body such as TÜV Rheinland, ensuring a compliant and efficient customs clearance process upon arrival in Ethiopia.

Under Route B, products are registered for 1 year and benefit from simplified certification reducing inspection frequencies (regardless of the number of certificates obtained during the validity period).
C	Manufacturers Licensed production facilities	Product Licensing based on Test Reports, Consignment Inspection, and Factory Audit.	Under Route C, products are licensed for one year, enabling faster shipment processing by further reduction of the inspection frequency (regardless of the number of certificates obtained during the validity period).
