Type approval for vehicle registration in South Korea
Motor vehicles applying for registration to operate in South Korea must provide the relevant local ministries certification proofing safety and environment standards have been met. The certification processes for the three relevant institutions are as follows: MOLIT – Safety functions of motor vehicles. Manufacturers self certification according to FMVSS + EC/ECE standards. MOTIE – Fuel economy (F/E) standards/labeling of motor vehicles. Manufacturer self certification for F/E tests based on US EPA standards (FTP75 + HWFET cycles) MOE – Emissions and noise of motor vehicles Application for approval to Transportation Pollution Research Center (TPRC) for emissions and noise certification. Application forms and product specification submitted to any agency must be signed by the manufacturer/exporter.
