Argentina - Motor vehicle type approval (LCM & LCA)

Vehicles to be sold in Argentina must comply with mandatory type approval according to safety and environmental requirements established in Decree 32/2018 under the authority of the Secretary of Industry. At the time of market entry, the following documentation for type approval must be presented: • Application form signed by manufacturer/exporter • Application form signed by importer • Production specification • Certificates of approved components7materials • Drawings/layout • Test reports from ISO/IEC 17025 laboratories • Name and address of local representative • Name and address of manufacturer Local representatives must maintain a recognized physical presence in the country. Shipment inspection is not required. To obtain LCM and LCA certification, local or importing representatives are obliged to submit an application form according to the procedure described in Annex P of the Decree 32/2018 to the local authorized INTI-DRA, Parque Certification Body. The application serves as an affidavit to compliant to active and passive safety and environmental requirements. Relevant technical documents should follow Annex P guidelines for the corresponding vehicle category. Certificates remain valid for as long as no changes are made to the vehicle design. The local authority may, at its discretion, request testing samples to verify documentation given by the applicant at the time of approval application. Decree 32/2018 also lists acceptable alternatives as supplemental documentation for type approval: • FMVSS • EC Regulations • EU Regulations Resolution 15/2019 allows for EC type approvals according to Directive 2007/46 or EC Regulation 2018/858 to be accepted for obtaining LCM vehicle approval. Leadtime for EC approval transferal shall take no longer than 5 working days after successful application with the local authority.
