Japan - DENAN & PSE Approval
Demonstrate compliance with Japanese electric safety law with certification in our laboratories
Many electrical appliances and components for home use in Japan are in the scope of the “Electrical Appliance and Material Safety Law” (DENAN Law), as issued by the 'Ministry for Economy, Trade and Industry' (METI). Those products covered are divided into two categories: - Non-Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials (341 items listed), where the manufacturer is solely responsible for safe manufacture in accordance with Japanese DENAN safety requirements, and therefore may affix the PSE-mark (circle shape). - Specified Electrical Appliances and Materials (116 items listed), which are subject to mandatory third-party testing by an Registered Conformity Assessment Body “RCAB”. After the issuance of a 'Certificate of Conformity' (CoC), the PSE-mark (diamond shape) may be affixed to the product. Testing and certification must be done according to J- (IEC) standards listed in Appendix 12 of the Interpretation of METI Ordinance, or the traditional Japanese safety requirements in Appendix 1 to 11 of the Interpretation of METI Ordinance. These technical requirements include safety testing, RFI tests and Factory Inspection. CoCs are issued on the factory of the product and base on a classification of the regulated product. Voluntary S-Mark certification is possible for most of electrical and electronic products.
