Costa Rica - Energy Efficiency Label

Ensure mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling for your products in Costa Rica

Costa Rica regulates energy efficiency for specific household appliances. The regulated appliances are required to bear an energy efficiency label to enter Costa Rica.

In August 2014, the related Directive 011-MINAE was published in the Official Gazette. It shall serve to prohibit the acquisition of low efficiency devices, equipment and luminaires that cause high electricity consumption in buildings and pedestrian traffic facilities.

By the ‘Programs for Institutional Environmental Management’ (PGAI), all public entities are mandated to implement environmental management systems. These programs will contain, among other aspects, the regulations for the acquisition of equipment, lighting fixtures, and appliances with high energy efficiency requirements indicated in this Directive.
