Brazil - Vehicle Homologation (CONTRAN)
Type approval of vehicles, trucks and motorcycles
Importers as well as foreign and local manufacturers must undergo the local motor vehicle homologation process in Brazil. Homologation standards apply to vehicles from motorcycles to trucks powered by internal combustion and/or electric engines. The vehicle homologation process is chiefly composed of two steps: environmental testing and technical analysis. In cases of vehicles with global certification, the existing homologation documents may be submitted to the Brazilian agency for a simplified homologation procedure. Local testing is, however, still mandatory and shall be conducted by a recognized technical laboratory. If applicable, information including but not limited to documentation of a type approval based on CONTRAN or international regulations must be submitted to the traffic agency, Vehicles may only be accepted or imported when all criteria have been met. Exceptions may apply. We have the expertise you need to achieve the type approvals necessary for entry to the Brazilian market. Contact our experts for a quote!
