Our type and component certification services for wind turbines

We offer both DAkkS-accredited type certification as well as component certification for wind turbines according to the international standard IEC 61400, GL2010, DNV GL 2015 and the IECRE scheme. TÜV Rheinland is also recognized by IECRE for the OD-501 standard (wind) In the international market, we are also accredited under CNAS (China) to deliver component certification.

Type certification applies to a series of wind turbines of common design and manufacture; it contains procedures related to design, manufacture, conformity testing and the plans for transportation, erection, installation and maintenance. More specifically, type certification certifies that the wind turbines have been designed, manufactured, and tested to meet specific standards or guidelines, technical requirements, and market requirements.

Wind turbine type certification consists of Mandatory modules and Optional Modules

In the mandatory modules we cover:

  • Review of the planning basis
  • Design basis evaluation
  • Evaluation of the wind turbine design
  • Type testing
  • • Manufacturing evaluation
  • Final assessment

And the optional module

  • Type characteristics measurements

Component certification

Wind turbine component certification confirms that a major component of a specific type is designed, documented and manufactured in conformity with design assumptions, specific standards and other technical requirements. A component certificate covers a major wind turbine component such as a rotor blades or gearbox. The procedures for component certification should be in line with the type certification procedures, and the specific content of a module depends on the actual component.
