Power Test Center Cologne

Safety for the technologies of tomorrow.

TÜV Rheinland’s new Power Test Center Cologne tests battery storage systems, power electronics, and charging infrastructure for the energy and mobility world – powerful, scalable, and sustainably designed to meet future requirements.

Imagine a future in which your electric vehicle not only consumes energy but intelligently feeds it back into the grid. A world where electric trucks charge in just a few minutes, ferries take on emission-free energy in port, and solar parks reliably supply entire regions. This is what our energy and mobility landscape could soon look like. The Power Test Center Cologne creates the conditions for this – by testing the technologies of tomorrow today and ensuring that visionary ideas can be safely put into practice.

With the Power Test Center Cologne, a state-of-the-art testing and development environment for industrial high-performance components is established in Troisdorf, Germany. Across more than 800 m² of laboratory space, our experts test technologies that are crucial for the energy transition, grid stability, and electromobility – from battery storage systems and power electronics to megawatt charging systems.

The Power Test Center Cologne is geared consistently toward the future needs of industry. Here, we test products and systems that require high power levels, large dimensions, and complex testing setups. This goes far beyond traditional laboratory standards. Where technical or spatial limits once existed, the Power Test Center Cologne opens up new possibilities for testing high-performance and large-scale systems.

Energy, mobility, and industry in transition

Industrial development is advancing rapidly: electric vehicles are becoming mobile energy storage units, charging times are decreasing dramatically, and new applications in the field of megawatt charging are emerging. At the same time, battery storage solutions for solar parks and industrial energy storage systems are growing – often in container-like dimensions of up to twelve meters in length.

These technologies place new demands on testing capacities, safety, and infrastructure. With the Power Test Center Cologne, we are responding specifically to these developments and creating the conditions to reliably test power levels of up to 1 MW. In doing so, we build trust in innovation – and give manufacturers the confidence to successfully position their products in a world of ever-increasing energy flows.

More innovation. More power. More room for development.
