The Government of India has introduced the Furniture Quality Control Order (QCO) under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), making BIS Certification mandatory for various furniture products such as work chairs, tables, desks, storage units, beds, and bunk beds.
According to the Furniture Quality Control 2025 notification (S.O. 801(E), published on 14th February 2025), compliance with BIS standards will become mandatory from 14th February 2026 and manufacturers must ensure their products meet the relevant Indian Standards (IS) to continue selling these goods in India.
