TÜV Rheinland: Additional solar standards open door to North American market

TÜV Rheinland Presse | 15 July, 2022

Three more listings for TÜV Rheinland in North America / Additional standards improve export opportunities for photovoltaic manufacturers / cTUVus test mark also opens the door for Canadian market /

At the end of June, the U.S. federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) decided to expand the scope for TÜV Rheinland of North America’s testing laboratories to include three additional solar standards. The NRTL listings cover safety qualification of photovoltaic modules with respect to construction (UL 61730 -1), per se testing requirements (UL 61730 -2) including fire testing for flat panel photovoltaic modules and panels. These standards are enormously important for PV products in North America, as they ensure their quality and safe operation. In addition, the CAN/CSA-C22.2 certification allows test lab customers to mark their products for the Canadian market with the cTUVus test mark.

The expanded listing of North American test labs will enable PV module manufacturers to receive even better support for the approval of their products in the future. With a global network of laboratories and a wide range of solar services, TÜV Rheinland can now offer a one stop service to IEC 61215 series and IEC / UL 61730 / CAN/CSA certification programs for the accredited range. Certification breaks down trade barriers and makes market access possible in the first place. Manufacturers focusing on the global market can thus significantly improve their worldwide export opportunities. TÜV Rheinland offers complete solutions for certification without the need for repeating tests for the respective products.

Three additional listings by OSHA

OSHA is part of the United States Department of Labor. Through the OSH Act, the agency is responsible for ensuring safe and healthful working conditions for workers by setting and enforcing standards and providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

The OSH Act applies to most private sector employers and their employees, as well as some public sector employers and employees in the 50 states and certain territories and jurisdictions under the federal authority. These include the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Wake Island, Johnston Island, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands as defined in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
