PFAS Testing
Whether in textiles, cosmetics or cookware, substances from the PFAS group of chemicals (perfluoroalkyl and poly¬fluoroalkyl substances) give many of our everyday products special properties. They have unique physical properties such as water and grease repellent effect, friction reduction and high thermal & chemical stability. Therefore, they are suitable for a wide range of different applications.
However, these substances are currently receiving special attention in international markets, because of their wide¬spread presence in the environment. PFAS are both harmful to the environment & to health and are very persistent.

Stricter Regulations Around The Corner
In the US market, some states have already introduced res¬trictions on the use of PFAS in clothing and food packaging. In January 2023, five national authorities also submitted a proposal to restrict PFAS in the EU. On
February 7, 2023, ECHA published a report on the proposed Annex XV restrictions, which in its current form would represent one of the largest bans on chemicals in Europe.
Prepare Now For Legal Changes
TÜV Rheinland offers a wide range of services to detect PFAS in products and components (intentional use or as a contaminant). Chemical analysis gives brands, retailers and suppliers the opportunity to meet existing legal requirements under EU and US law and prepare for future tightening.
