The right test program for the safety and quality of your smoke detector

Level 0 – CE mark
Selling products on the German and European market requires CE marking according to the Construction Products Regulation. Notified bodies, such as our cooperation partner KRIWAN Test Center, perform mandatory testing and certification for smoke detectors.

Level I - Safety and product monitoring
Level I tests the functional reliability of smoke detectors. Testing and certification according to TÜV Rheinland Standard 2544 requires a certificate of constancy of performance and responsiveness from a notified body.

Regular, semi-annual production monitoring is an essential element of the test. The following tests, among others, are performed during every production control:

  • Inspection of the operation instructions, packaging, labels etc.
  • Verification of battery capacity
  • Fire sensitivity level TF2 and TF5
  • Acoustic emission

After successful testing and certification, you receive the TÜV Rheinland certification mark and are listed in our database Certipedia. This allows you to show at a glance what distinguishes your certified product from your competitors.

Level II - Quality
The certification of a smoke detector according to Level II is based on the Level I test program and includes the following additional requirements regarding the quality and durability of your product:

  • Testing the capacity and operational reliability of the battery over its specified service life (5 and 10 years)
  • Special quality features (e.g. easy installation, easy function control, alternative fastening systems such as adhesive pads) are tested for durability on the basis of climatic and mechanical load tests
  • Smoke detectors according to Level II must feature drift compensation
  • Test of functionality and quality in terms of smoke detector robustness by means of drop tests

Expand your smoke detector’s range of application. Have your product tested for use in habitable vehicles.

Here is how your test mark could look like

Show with the proper keywords that your products are compliant with all Level I and Level II requirements in terms of functionality, safety and quality.
