TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program

TÜV Rheinland institutionalized a Functional Safety Program in 2004 together with national and international companies and experts of the functional safety business.

This is the only worldwide extended vocational training program in the field of functional safety approving knowledge and competencies through a third, neutral party and issuing certificates. Until now, more than 7,500 engineers have participated in various training topics and have been awarded the worldwide prestigious "Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV Rheinland)" certificate.

Functional Safety Course Providers

More than 20 different course providers offer these trainings under the umbrella of the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program worldwide.

Course providers cooperate very closely with TÜV Rheinland. The applied training and exam material has been reviewed and approved of by TÜV Rheinland and the trainers are accepted so-called FS Expert (TÜV Rheinland) in the according application area.

Functional Safety Trainers

Instructors training in the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program must be qualified FS Experts (TÜV Rheinland) in the specified application area.

Trainers can only offer and hold TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program trainings if the corresponding training and exam material has been approved by TÜV Rheinland. Thus, their company or the company they work for is required to be an accepted course provider by TÜV Rheinland.

Necessary Requirements to Consider

At the end of each functional safety training, an exam takes place. Participants who fulfill the following requirements, have attended the complete training and have forwarded the necessary documents can participate in this exam.

If the exam is passed successfully, the prestigious FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate is issued by TÜV Rheinland.

Requirements for the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program

The following requirements must be met in order to participate in a training of the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program and to get the FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate:

  • a minimum of 3 years of job experience in the field of functional safety.
  • University degree (Master's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering).

or

  • Equivalent engineer level responsibilities status certified by employer.

(Persons, who do not have the required business experience, may participate in the training as well as the exam. If they pass the exam successfully the FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate will be issued to them as soon as the necessary 3 years of business experience in the area of functional safety are achieved.

FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) Certificate

The FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate is sent by email as an electronic scan format to each successful participant.

The FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate confirms that a person has:

  • Participated continuously in a training of the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program concerning a specified topic.
  • Successfully passed the final exam of this training.
  • Obtained specified knowledge, which he can integrate to his daily work.
  • Acquired the title "FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland)" concerning the specified topic within the TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Program.

Validity of the FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) Certificate

The FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate is valid for 5 years.

The validity of this certificate can be extended. FS Engineers (TÜV Rheinland) are contacted by TÜV Rheinland in due time.
