USA - New Chemicals Listed under Proposition 65

​​The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) is adding the following four chemicals to the list of chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer for purposes of Proposition 65, effective December 17, 2021. The listing of these chemicals is pursuant to the "Labour Code" listing mechanism.

1. Tetrahydrofuran - mainly used in adhesives and sealants, paints and coatings, building and construction materials, plastic and rubber products.

2. 2-ethylhexyl acrylate - used as a monomer in the chemical industry for the production of polymers and copolymers, which are mainly processed further to aqueous polymer dispersions. The polymers and copolymer dispersions are used in adhesives and as binders for paints. Other applications include coatings raw materials and uses in the plastic and textiles industries.

3. Methyl acrylate - used in adhesives and sealants, fuels and related products, paints and coatings, personal care products and plastic & rubber products.

4. Trimethylolpropane triacrylate - used in adhesive and sealants, building and construction materials, ink, toner, and colorant products, metal products, paint and coatings.

​The basis for the listings was described in a public notice published on June 11, 2021, issue of the California Regulatory Notice Register (Register 2021, No. 24-Z).
