USA - Hawaii Prohibits Mercury-Containing Compact Fluorescent Lamps
The Governor of Hawaii signed HB 192 into law on 5 July banning mercury-containing compact fluorescent lamps with certain exemptions.
- a screw or bayonet base type compact fluorescent lamp, effective January 1, 2025;
- a pin-base type compact fluorescent lamp or linear fluorescent lamp, effective January 1, 2026.
Exemptions:
- used for image capture and projection or in preprocessing, lithography, film and video projection and holography;
- high proportion of UV emission lighting;
- used for medical or veterinary diagnosis or treatment or used in medical device;
- used in pharmaceutical product manufacturing or quality control;
- used for spectroscopy and photometric applications;
- used by academic and research institutions exclusively for conducting research and experiments;
- used to replace a lamp in previously manufactured motor vehicles.
