USA - FCC Announces the Removal of Toy Drones from the Covered List
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau announced that “Toy Drones” and “Toy Drones that contain foreign-produced components” are removed from the FCC Covered List based on a Department of War determination that they do not pose an unacceptable U.S. national security or public safety risk.
The determination applies only to a narrowly defined class of low-risk toy drones meeting all specified criteria, such as weight of 150 g or less, no GPS, no internet/Wi‑Fi/app connectivity, no imaging or sensing capability, limited speed/altitude/flight time, and marketing as toys for recreational use.
The removal remains effective unless a future national security determination supersedes it, and the updated Covered List is available on the FCC website.
