USA - California Proposes to Ban PFAS in Artificial Turf
California proposes to ban per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in artificial turf or synthetic surfaces from 2024. The bill AB 1423 was passed in the Assembly on May 25, proposing a manufacturer of installer of a covered surface shall notify any party at the earliest possible date that the covered surface contains regulated PFAS from January 1, 2024. Furthermore, a full ban of such a covered surface would start from January 1, 2025.
The presence of PFAS in a product or product component at or above 1 ppm, as measured in total organic fluorine is considered to contain regulated PFAS.
