US - Nevada Bans Organohalogen Flame Retardants (OFRs) in Consumer Products

The Nevada Bill AB97 was signed into law on May 27, 2021 prohibiting organohalogen flame retardants (OFRs) in certain consumer products if the concentration is above 1000 ppm in any product component. The target products are products intended for children aged 12 or below, upholstered residential furniture, residential or business textile using to cover windows or wall, or mattress.

And OFRs shall not be replaced with a chemical that has been identified by a state or federal agency as being known or suspected to have a high degree of causing harm to human health.

The requirement will take effect on July 1, 2022.

The bill also prohibits perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in class B firefighting foams which aligns with other states, such as Vermont.
