Uruguay - Draft Regulation on Electrical and Electronic Equipment Waste Management

The notified draft regulations seek to protect the environment and health from adverse effects arising from the generation and management of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). The draft establishes the framework necessary to promote a decrease in the generation of such waste, and making use of it rather than disposing of it  definitively, through a circular economy approach. The proposed conceptual management model applies, on the  one hand, the principle of extended responsibility to the importer and/or manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment, the characteristics or design of which mean that it can be used by households, businesses, industry or other  productive economic activities. On the other hand, the

"polluter pays" principle applies to electrical and electronic  equipment designed for specialized applications in productive economic activities.
