Taiwan - The Abolition of "Legal Inspection Requirements for Fluorescent Lamps"
The Taiwan Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), has proposed repealing the mandatory inspection requirements for fluorescent lamps, including hot-cathode fluorescent tubes, self-ballasted fluorescent lamps, and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). The proposal aligns with the global trend of restricting mercury-containing products under the Minamata Convention and supports Taiwan’s planned ban on the importation of mercury-containing products. As fluorescent lighting products are expected to be phased out from the market, maintaining mandatory inspection requirements is no longer considered necessary.
