Taiwan - Restrictions on the Importing of Mercury-Added Products
The Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration has published an Executive Yuan Notice for the promulgation of "Regulations for Restricting the Import of Mercury-containing Products".
Based on Article 21 of the Waste Disposal Act, the following products containing mercury are restricted to be imported into Taiwan:
(a) switches and relays, except very high accuracy capacitance and loss measuring bridges and high-frequency radio frequency switches and relays in monitoring and control instruments with a maximum mercury content of 20 mg per bridge, switch or relay.
(b) high-pressure mercury lamps for general lighting
(c) non-electric measuring instruments, e.g. barometers, hygrometers, pressure guages, thermometers (including clinical thermometers) and sphygmomanometers.
You will need an official permit / licence for importing the products mentioned above for the following usages:
- For protection of civilians and military use
- For research, instrument calibration or for reference standards
- For products mentioned in (a) & (c) of the preceding paragraph which has no suitable alternative for mercury.
