Sweden - National Ban on PFAS in Certain Consumer Products

The Swedish Ministry of Climate and Enterprise published a memorandum on July 23, 2026 regarding the proposal on a national ban on PFAS in certain consumer products.

The products covered are clothing and footwear, impregnation agents for clothing and footwear, cosmetic products, kitchen utensils and ski wax. The ban means that the products may not be made available to consumers on the Swedish market if they contain PFAS above certain limit values. The national ban shall not apply if a corresponding ban follows from regulation at EU level. A number of exemptions from the ban are proposed, including for used products and clothing containing recycled materials.

The amendments to the regulation are proposed to enter into force on January 1, 2028.
