South Korea - Revision of the Rules on the Performance and Standards for Motor Vehicles and their Parts

​The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MoLIT) has proposed amendments to its vehicle safety regulations for lighting devices to align domestic requirements with the latest international standards, including UN Regulations Nos. 148, 149, 150, and the 08 series of UN Regulation No. 48, reflecting advances in lighting technology.

​The proposal would introduce and update requirements for various lighting systems, including permitting projection functions for reversing lamps, revising terminology and installation requirements for adaptive driving beams (ADB), allowing driver-assistance projection functions related to ADB, and updating installation and photometric requirements for headlamps, fog lamps, and cornering lamps.

It would also clarify and harmonize international requirements for light-signaling devices and retro-reflective equipment, including daytime running lamps, position lamps, stop lamps, direction indicators, retro-reflectors, warning triangles, and vehicle marking plates, to ensure consistency with globally recognized vehicle safety standards.
