New Zealand - Electricity (Safety) Amendment Regulations 2025

These regulations, which come into force on November 13, 2025, amend the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010 (the principal regulations).

The amendments incorporate updated New Zealand and international standards. They also incorporate new standards to keep up to date with recent technological developments, including standards for—electric bikes, to the extent that a bike is in scope of the applicable standard for electrically power-assisted cycles; and personal e-transporters, such as electric scooters, skateboards, and hover boards; and electric vehicle supply equipment; and
lithium cells in batteries.
The amendments provide for a 1-year transitional period during which people may choose to continue to use the old standards or switch to the new standards. If the amendments apply standards to new items not previously covered, a person has until November 13, 2026 to comply with these standards.
