Mexico - Telecommunications Regulatory Body Transition from IFT to CRT

On Friday, October 17, the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) was officially dissolved, and its responsibilities were transferred to the new Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT). This new agency now operates with five commissioners, who were selected by the Presidency and confirmed by the Senate.

This week marks the start of the transition process to the CRT. As a result, some administrative and regulatory procedures have been temporarily suspended:
- Approval procedures (e.g., homologations): suspended for 5 business days
- Other regulatory processes: suspended for 15 business days.
- On-going administrative and regulatory procedures: suspended for 60 business days.

Despite the changes, existing legal frameworks and on-going processes remain valid and will now be managed by the CRT.
