Mexico - Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) Transition to Comisión de Regulación en Telecomunicaciones (CRT)
Effective from July 17, 2025, the new Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law published in the Official Gazette took effec. This law repealed the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law, and transition of responsibilities apply immediately.
During the transition:
Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) operations continue temporarily while Comisión de Regulación en Telecomunicaciones (CRT) gradually assumes oversight.
IFT homologation services will pause briefly for from July 21–August .
Current IFT technical regulations remain temporarily valid until CRT releases new updates.
Oversight authority transitions from Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) to the new Comisión de Regulación en Telecomunicaciones (CRT).
IFT will eventually dissolve once CRT is fully operational.
The transition marks a significant shift in the regulatory framework for telecom and broadcasting equipment certifications and market access.
Homologation remains mandatory but is now under CRT oversight.
New CRT guidelines will introduce a unique certificate number format for traceability (details pending from CRT).
The homologation process could face administrative delays due to the CRT setup.
