Japan - Seeking Public Comments on the Draft Notification Determining the Range of Frequencies Usable as Specified Experimental and Test Stations
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) in Japan has drafted a notification to define the frequency range and conditions for using 5.8GHz band radio waves for experimental drone operations under the ""Specified Experimental Test Station"" system, which simplifies licensing procedures.
Public comments on this proposal will be accepted from December 13, 2025, to January 16, 2026, following a needs survey that identified 27 new regions where shared use with ETC systems is feasible.
Additionally, the MIC has proposed amendments to related regulations to streamline licensing procedures for experimental test stations outside the designated areas.
