Jamaica - Standard Specification for the Limit for Lead Content in Paints and Similar Surface Coating

Bureau of Standards Jamaica  announced the Standard Specification  for  the  limit  for  lead  content  in  paints  and  similar  surface  coating.

This standard provides general requirements for the maximum limit for the lead content in paints and varnishes supplied in fluid and dried form as well as sampling and analysis.

The development of this standard will support the legal enforcement of the 90 ppm or 0.009 % (90 μg/mL), the UN recommended lead limit in paints and varnishes.

Lead  in  paints  and  varnishes  has  deleterious  effects  on  humans particularly  children. Therefore, there is a global effort to eradicate lead in paints to protect human life and health.

The document aims to provide assurance that adequate measures are put in place to facilitate the production and importation of safe domestic and industrial paint products.
