India - FSSAI Proposes Prohibition of PFAS and BPA in Food Packaging and Contact Materials
On October 6, 2025, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a draft notification proposing amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018.
The new proposal, titled 'Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2025', introduces a complete ban on Poly and Perfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs) in food contact materials.
In addition to PFAs, the proposed regulation targets Bisphenol A (BPA) and its derivatives. The amendment requires that all food contact materials made from polycarbonate and epoxy resins be completely free from BPA and its derivatives.
