EU - Stronger Toy Safety Rules Enter into Force
The new EU Toy Safety Regulation will enter into force on January 1, 2026, following its adoption by the European Parliament and the Council, and aims to strengthen children's protection from harmful chemicals in toys and improve enforcement of safety rules.
The regulation bans hazardous substances, including hormone-disrupting chemicals, PFAS, bisphenols, and substances that cause cancer, genetic damage, or reproductive harm.
While the regulation enters into force in 2026, the new rules will apply starting August 1, 2030, requiring all toys on the EU market to have a digital product passport with safety and compliance information accessible via QR codes or other data carriers.
