EU - EU Implementing Decision 2026/1736 First Harmonized Standards for Digital Product Passports
Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1736 of July 14, 2026 published the references of the first 6 harmonized standards for digital product passports (DPPs) in support of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781).
The Decision entered into force on July 15, 2026 - the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. From that date, conformity with the listed standards confers a presumption of conformity with the essential DPP requirements in Articles 10 and 11 of the ESPR (to the extent covered by those standards).
The list of harmonized standards are:
- EN 18216:2026 – Data exchange protocols
- EN 18219:2026 – Unique identifiers
- EN 18220:2026 – Data carriers
- EN 18221:2026 – Data storage, archiving, and persistence
- EN 18222:2026 – Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for product passport lifecycle management and searchability
- EN 18223:2026 – System interoperability
