EU - Draft Commission Regulation Regards Formaldehyde Emission Restriction in Products
This draft Regulation would amend Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 by adding the following restriction on:
- the placing on the market of articles for indoor use where formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasing substances have been intentionally added in their production if, under the test conditions specified in the Appendix of the restriction, the concentration of formaldehyde released exceeds 0.062 mg/m3 for wood-based articles and furniture, or 0.08 mg/m3 for other articles and
- road vehicles, where the concentration of formaldehyde in the interior of those vehicles exceeds 0,062 mg/m3.
The proposed restriction has the following exemptions:
- articles that are only for outdoor use under reasonably foreseeable conditions
- industrial or professional use articles that does not lead to exposure of the general public
- textile, footwear and other articles within the scope of entry 72
- personal protective equipment
- food contact articles
- second-hand articles
This restriction shall apply 48 months after its entry into force for road vehicles, and 36 months after its entry into force for all other articles within its scope.
