EU - Draft Commission Directive Amending Annex II to Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council as Regards Allergenic Fragrances in Toys, Bisphenol A, Phenol and Benzisothiazolinone
The European Commission issued a Draft Commission Directive amending Annex II to Directive 2009/48/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council with regard to allergenic fragrances in toys, bisphenol A (BPA), phenol, and benzisothiazolinone.
The draft would introduce the following amendments to Directive 2009/48/EC on toy safety:
- Inclusion of the fragrance Lilial in the list of prohibited allergenic fragrances in toys set out in the first paragraph of Point 11 of Annex II to the Directive;
- Removal from Appendix C to Annex II of the references to EN 71-10 and EN 71-11 as mandatory testing methods for bisphenol A, phenol, and benzisothiazolinone in toys; and
- Reduction of the migration limit for bisphenol A (BPA) in Appendix C to Annex II to 0.005 mg/L.
