Brazil - Ordinance No.499/2021 Technical Quality Regulations and Conformity Assessment Requirements for Metal Cookware

​Brazil National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO) issued Ordinance no. 499/2021 regarding metal pots on December 28th, 2021

This ordinance applies to the following types of metal pots:

I - for use in an oven, with a base or diagonal diameter of up to 75 cm, including including baking sheets, shapes, trays and tortoises, or other utensil with similar function;
II - for use on stove, with volumetric capacity up to 17 l, including including water baths, casseroles, cauldrons, steamers, couscous, spaghetti, kettles, kettles, cookers, pots, mumps, pipoqueiras, puddings, pots, woks, teapots, mugs, coffee makers, kettles, deep fryers, dairy, marmites and molheiras, or other utensils with similar function;
III - for use in stove, with base or diagonal diameter of up to 40 cm, including steakhouses, bistequeiras, barbecues, creperie, closed pizza shapes, shapes for direct heat source, frying pans, omelettes, pancakes, sandwich makers and tapioqueiras, or other utensils with similar function, and
IV - pressure cookers, with volumetric capacity of up to 30 l.

The following are excluded from compliance with the provisions of these Regulations:
I - pots with a capacity greater than those mentioned above;
II - pots exclusively for use in hotels and camping;
III - pots exclusively for industrial use;
IV - silicone pots;
V - electric pots;
VI - the réchaud type pans, and
VII - disposable utensils.

This Ordinance has come into effect on January 3rd, 2022, and repealed INMETRO Ordinance No. 398/2012, 419/2012 and 21/2016.
