Brazil - Ofício nº 246/2025/ORCN/SOR-ANATEL on Certification of FDD equipment operating in the L-band (1895–1900 MHz / 1975–1980 MHz)
Ofício nº 246/2025/ORCN/SOR-ANATEL addresses the discontinuation of certification for FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) equipment operating in the L-band (1895–1900 MHz uplink / 1975–1980 MHz downlink) in Brazil.
The now-revoked Resolution No. 454/2006 allowed the use of the L subband (1895–1900 MHz uplink and 1975–1980 MHz downlink) for FDD systems in Personal Mobile Services (SMP).
Resolution No. 757/2022 replaced Resolution No. 454/2006, restricting the 1880–1920 MHz range exclusively for TDD (Time Division Duplex) systems, which impacted FDD systems.
In summary, under the updated regulatory framework, equipment using the FDD duplex mode in the L-band frequencies (1895–1900 MHz uplink / 1975–1980 MHz downlink) can no longer be certified or maintained for operation in Brazil. The focus is now solely on systems utilizing TDD technology within the 1880–1920 MHz range.
