Brazil - Inmetro Reinforces Technical Role in Vehicle Inspection with New Ordinance

Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology, Quality, and Technology) reinforced its technical role in vehicle safety inspections with the publication of Portaria nº 106/2025. 

This regulation reaffirms Inmetro’s responsibility for conformity assessment schemes in alignment with the Senatran (National Traffic Secretariat), part of the Ministry of Transport, which is responsible for public traffic policies.

​The portaria revokes specific articles of earlier regulations (Portarias nº 147, 149, 153, and 194 from 2022) to clarify Inmetro’s technical responsibilities and ensures legal validity for inspections conducted between December 31, 2024, and the new regulation's enactment. 

This institutional enhancement strengthens Inmetro’s role, complements Senatran’s leadership in traffic guidelines, and ensures alignment with international standards and best practices.
