Brazil (INMETRO) - Ordinance No. 217 on Kingpins Requirements for Conformity Assessment
On May 17, 2021, INMETRO released the consolidated version of Ordinance 217 on kingpins, part of trailers and semi-trailers and other vehicles not mechanically propeled (HS Code 871690).
Decree 10.139 of November 28, 2019, provides for the need for revision and
consolidation of normative acts below the decree. It aims to update and consolidate
regulatory acts, elimination of obsolete regulations whose effects have been exhausted in
time or the need cannot be identified.
Thus, the inventories and complexity of regulatory
processes will be reduced. Inmetro, or an entity accredited by it, in accordance with § 1º of
Article 4º of the regulation for the road transportation of dangerous goods, shall attest to
the suitability of vehicles and road equipment intended for the carriage of dangerous
products. Road vehicles carrying cargo and dangerous goods may only be on service after
proof of compliance with the safety requirements and conditions established in the
Brazilian Traffic Code - CTB and the Resolutions of the National Traffic Council – Contran
Kingpins, used in road vehicles carrying dangerous goods, marketed in the country, must
have minimum safety requirements.
