Argentina - Incorporation of MERCOSUR Regulation on Materials, Packages and Cellulosic Equipment in Contact with Food

​The National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) announced that Joint Resolution No. 06/2026 incorporates MERCOSUR resolutions GMC 19/21, 20/21, and 21/21 into the Argentine Food Code to update rules for plastic and cellulosic materials, packaging, and equipment that come into contact with food. 

The changes revise authorized substances and general technical provisions, update specific rules for cellulosic food-contact materials, and amend articles 186 bis and 207 while adding article 206 bis. 

Overall, the measure modernizes Argentina’s regulatory framework, aligns it with current MERCOSUR standards, and strengthens food safety and regional harmonization.
