All Aboard for Railway Safety: TÜV Rheinland Inspires Young Minds Through Hands-On Learning
Taiwan | 08 October, 2024
On October 8, 2024, the German Trade Office Taipei organized a one-day CSR Day event, bringing together German companies operating in Taiwan for a meaningful visit to Qiao-Shan Elementary School in Miaoli County. The initiative encouraged German businesses to connect with local communities through fun, educational programs that reflect their long-term commitment to Taiwan’s social development.
Following the success of its 2023 educational program, “The Wind Treasure,” TÜV Rheinland returned in 2024 as a one-day guest instructor. This time, the company introduced the theme “All Aboard for Railway Safety!” at Qiao-Shan Elementary School, sparking students’ curiosity about the fascinating world of rail transportation and safety.
Led by two TÜV Rheinland engineers, the class provided students with an engaging look into how railway systems operate around the world—from the structural design of tracks to signaling and electrical systems. The lesson highlighted how the rail networks of different countries reflect their unique terrains and engineering solutions, with some cutting through mountains and others running over the sea. Students learned to interpret basic railway signals—essentially traffic lights for trains—and gained understanding of how these systems prevent accidents and safeguard both passengers and pedestrians.
To bring the concepts to life, students also took part in a hands-on train model-building activity, in which they designed and assembled their own trains. By blending learning with creativity, TÜV Rheinland aimed to strengthen the students’ practical understanding of railway safety and help them apply this knowledge in everyday situations.
This initiative reflects TÜV Rheinland’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility in Taiwan. By engaging with young learners and promoting safety education, the company not only enriches classroom experiences but also bridges global expertise with local needs. This is part of TÜV Rheinland’s broader mission to empower the next generation through meaningful, safety-focused learning experiences.
