TÜV Rheinland Supports Haier Freezer in Achieving SBTi Validation for Emission Reduction Targets

Greater China | 20 September, 2024

In August 2024, TÜV Rheinland Greater China, a leading international third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, successfully supported Qingdao Haier Special Freezer Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Haier Special Freezer ") in obtaining validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its "near-term emission reduction target" and "long-term net-zero emission target."

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) was jointly launched by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). As global carbon neutrality becomes a prevailing trend, achieving scientifically grounded carbon targets has become a new business norm, showcasing a company’s competitiveness and responsibility in the areas of sustainable development and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices.

With the support of TÜV Rheinland, Haier Special Freezer developed and submitted its Science Based Targets committed based on the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C climate goal making Haier Special Freezer the first brand in China’s home appliance industry to pass both near-term and long-term validation for its emission targets.

Looking ahead, TÜV Rheinland and Haier Special Freezer will continue to collaborate to overcome limitations in greenhouse gas emission reduction solutions within the industry. By integrating scientific carbon targets across various stages, the companies are paving the way for a fully green and low-carbon supply chain. This comprehensive approach encompasses every aspect of the process, from full-cycle emission reduction to carbon neutrality, contributing to the achievement of China’s "dual carbon" goals.

Since 2006, TÜV Rheinland has been a global leader, becoming the first certification body to sign the United Nations Global Compact. The company has long been committed to promoting responsible business operations and sustainable development, backed by its own sustainability goals. Moving forward, TÜV Rheinland will continue to focus on low-carbon and sustainable fields, providing professional one-stop solutions to help build resilient, green enterprises, and contributing to broader sustainability efforts.
