TÜV Rheinland Hands "Antibacterial Product" Quality-mark Certificate to BOE's Tablet Display Module

Greater China | 03 April, 2024

On April 1, TÜV Rheinland Greater China, an international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, attended the International Conference on Display Technology (ICDT) held in Hefei. At its booth, TÜV Rheinland handed the “Antibacterial Product” Quality-mark Certificate to BOE's tablet display module (54 models including TV127XUM-LWA, TE138QDM-LWB, TS070FHM-LWC, etc.)

Zhang Douqing, Manager of Tablet Personal Computer Customer Development of LCD Product Development Center at BOE, said, "Adhering to the mission of 'Lightening the World with Displays, Changing Lives with Heart', BOE developed the UAM active antibacterial and antiviral technology, which has passed a series of rigorous tests by TÜV Rheinland. In the future, BOE will develop new eye-friendly display technologies according to the development strategy of 'Display IoT', and bring safer and securer display products to consumers around the world."

Jay Yang, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Electrical, said, "TÜV Rheinland and BOE established a long-term strategic partnership in 2020. We have been collaborating extensively in eye-friendly screens and display performance. The antibacterial screen certification for touch display products is an extension of our cooperation. In the future, we will further enhance our cooperation, provide solutions for quality evaluation and user experience issues in industrial development, and help consumers understand and purchase high-quality products."

TÜV Rheinland has conducted in-depth research on international relevant standards, combined with market research and usage scenario analysis, to develop a certification standard for antimicrobial properties of touch screen display products. This standard is based on international standards such as ISO 22196 and ISO 21702, and includes testing in two main dimensions: the safety of antibacterial/antiviral surface coatings and the antibacterial/antiviral capabilities.

The safety of surface coatings includes evaluation of toxic and harmful substances, as well as testing for skin irritation caused by the surface coatings. The testing of antibacterial/antiviral capabilities adopts methods that are more stringent and more in line with the actual usage scenarios of display products compared to existing ISO standards. This includes short-term antibacterial/antiviral capabilities, as well as antibacterial/antiviral capabilities after a series of durability tests simulating daily product usage scenarios. The durability testing include: high temperature and high humidity environments, low temperature environments, long-term UV exposure, simulation of surface cleaning operations with 75% alcohol, and simulation of actual user usage with artificial skin.

The testing results showed that the antibacterial agent used on BOE's tablet display module is non-irritating to human skin. After the durability testing, the antibacterial rate of the product is 99.67% for Escherichia coli, 99.69% for Staphylococcus aureus and 91.43% for H1N1 virus. The sample inoculation time of the antibacterial testing has been reduced to 2 hours, stricter than the 24 hours required by international standards.

Dedicated to the field of displays for decades, TÜV Rheinland has introduced standards and certification services for various products, such as Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, Eye Comfort, Full-care Display, Paper Like Display, Reliable Folding, Color Care, Perceptual Color Volume, and Dynamic Privacy Filter. TÜV Rheinland is committed to guiding the display industry to continuously improve its technology and achieve better performance, which has been widely recognized by the industry. In the future, TÜV Rheinland will continue to leverage its rich experience and technological advantages in the display field, and work with industry partners to promote the overall technological advancement of the industry and promote the high-quality development of the display industry.
