TÜV Rheinland appoints new director for Electrical Products division in South America
São Paulo/Brazil | 28 April, 2025

Igor Martins is the new Director of the Electrical Products Division at TÜV Rheinland for South America. The executive takes over the business unit in the region with a primary focus on the markets of Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. The Electrical Products Division encompasses certification and audit services for a wide range of products such as batteries, electronic components, household appliances, power tools, lighting and LED systems, energy storage solutions, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).
With more than 15 years of experience in the Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) sector, including a previous tenure at TÜV Rheinland Brazil, Martins has held various strategic roles in commercial, operational, and certification areas.
Now back at TÜV Rheinland, Martins will be responsible for the strategic and operational management of the division, with an emphasis on sustainable growth, financial performance, and team leadership. His priorities include the expansion of ANATEL certification services, revenue growth, and increased collaboration across business units. He will also lead the expansion of the Salto (SP) laboratory and ensure compliance with INMETRO regulatory requirements. Additionally, he will serve as the main point of contact with key industry associations, including INMETRO, ANATEL, ABRAC, and others, fostering institutional relationships and representing TÜV Rheinland in regulatory and technical forums. “Taking on the leadership of the Electrical Products Division at such a promising time for the sector is a unique opportunity. I want to actively contribute to the sustainable growth of TÜV Rheinland in the region, promoting innovation, technical excellence, and closer ties with our clients and partners,” says Igor Martins.
Based in São Paulo, the new director will report directly to Frank Holzman, Global Director of the Electrical Products Division at TÜV Rheinland. “South America is a strategic region for TÜV Rheinland’s business, and we believe that combining local knowledge with global expertise is key to expanding our presence with consistency and innovation. Igor embodies exactly this profile, and we are confident his leadership will deliver significant results for the region and ensure added value for our clients,” highlights Holzman.
A growing market
TÜV Rheinland’s Electrical Products Division operates in a globally expanding market. In 2024, the electrical equipment sector generated approximately USD 1.6 trillion worldwide, with projections indicating growth to USD 2.3 trillion by 2029, driven by technological advances, favorable government initiatives, and increasing demand for efficient energy infrastructure.
In Latin America, the sector reached USD 80 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% through 2031. Brazil leads the region, with a market valued at USD 34.2 billion in 2024 and an expected annual growth rate of 7%. This outlook is fueled by infrastructure investments, accelerated urbanization, and the transition to renewable energy sources.
Moreover, increasing concern for sustainability also underscores the importance of this division, especially in segments such as household appliances, LED lighting, batteries, and energy storage systems — all subject to increasingly stringent safety and energy efficiency regulations. For example, the Latin American market for energy-efficient lighting devices generated USD 8.4 billion in 2024, with projections to reach USD 11.6 billion by 2030, driven by demand for sustainable lighting solutions. In Brazil, the Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan (PDE 2034) sets ambitious goals, aiming for a 7% reduction in energy consumption by 2034 through advances in energy efficiency, particularly in household appliances and storage systems.
