Chain System, Enhancing Differentiated Competitiveness

TÜV Rheinland Greater China, an international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization, has successfully supported Joycube (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. (“Joycube”) in completing its “Supply Chain Due Diligence Management System” project.

In accordance with the requirements of the new EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, the project has driven Joycube to further strengthen its supply chain due diligence management system. It enables internal teams to benchmark and implement regulatory requirements, enhances the company’s compliance and competitiveness in global markets, and establishes a solid foundation for long-term sustainable development.

Li Jia, Quality Director of Joycube, stated: “The establishment of this supply chain due diligence management system marks a shift in our cooperation with TÜV Rheinland from individual engagements to systematic capability enhancement. Previously, with TÜV Rheinland’s professional support, we completed organizational carbon verification and product carbon footprint validation, forming a three-dimensional emission-reduction framework covering operations, products, and corporate strategy. This latest collaboration not only strengthens our compliance resilience in the EU market but also helps us transition from passive compliance to proactive value creation. It establishes a benchmark model driven by ‘green supply chains + low-carbon technologies’. Looking ahead, we expect to deepen our partnership with TÜV Rheinland and jointly promote high-quality development across the new energy industry.”

The new EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 has been fully enforced since February 18, 2024. It introduces mandatory requirements for various categories of batteries placed on the EU market or integrated as key components in equipment entering Europe, excluding batteries used for military, aerospace, or nuclear applications. The regulation covers product design, production processes, waste battery recycling, material recovery, and other areas, aiming to strengthen oversight and promote sustainable development within the battery industry.

As part of this project, TÜV Rheinland provided professional support across three phases. First, it enhanced the expertise of Joycube’s internal audit team through in-depth interpretation of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries and the implementation of due diligence standards. Second, it guided Joycube in building a digitalized due diligence management system incorporating supplier qualification, risk-matrix assessments, risk mitigation and elimination, and raw-material traceability. Third, it assisted Joycube in completing supplier due diligence audits, identifying and managing risks, and driving suppliers to enhance their sustainable management performance, enabling the integration of compliance requirements into Joycube’s ESG strategy and supporting continuous management improvement.

Vincent Chen, General Manager, Corporate Sustainability Services at TÜV Rheinland Greater China, stated: “As a global provider of professional battery-compliance services, TÜV Rheinland leverages its Suzhou New Energy Laboratory and global technical network to offer one-stop solutions covering regulatory advisory, testing and certification, and digital platforms. We are also actively contributing to the ‘Battery Sustainability Assessment Platform’, co-developed with the Global Battery Alliance (GBA) and the China Battery Industry Association (CBIA). This initiative will further support enterprises in responding to the EU’s new regulatory requirements and meeting the ESG audit expectations of international customers.”
