TÜV Rheinland Designated as Technical Service for the GBTA Scheme Effective April 2026

TÜV Rheinland has been officially designated by the UK Department for Transport’s Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) as a technical service for the Great Britain Type Approval (GBTA) Scheme, effective April 2026. This designation enables TÜV Rheinland to support manufacturers with testing and compliance services required to obtain GBTA for vehicles, systems, and components intended for the Great Britain market. This achievement further enhances TÜV Rheinland's global network for market access services and reflects the company’s long-standing expertise in vehicle type approval, regulatory compliance, and independent conformity assessment.

The GBTA scheme is applicable for manufacturers wishing to place vehicles and components on the market in Great Britain. The scheme is based on EU legislation as it was assimilated into UK law following EU exit, which covers motor vehicles and trailers in the M, N and O vehicle categories, and vehicle systems and components relating to these categories. Subject to applicable transitional arrangements, M & N category vehicle types will be required to hold a valid GBTA from February 2026.
