TÜV Rheinland Strengthens Strategic Automotive Collaborations in China
Greater China | 02 June, 2025
From May 20 to 23, Dr. Matthias Schubert, Executive Vice President of Mobility of TÜV Rheinland Group, visited China to deepen strategic partnerships with three of Chinese leading automotive innovators: BYD, Changan Automobile, and Seres Group. The tour was accompanied by Huang Yuxin, Vice President of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Mobility, Anne Lee, Regional Sales Manager of TÜV Rheinland Greater China Mobility. Their visit highlighted TÜV Rheinland’s commitment to advancing global cooperation in intelligent mobility, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and sustainable transport development.
BYD: Building on a Decade of Cooperation
At BYD’s Automotive R&D Centre, Dr. Schubert explored the company’s latest achievements in electric mobility and technological innovation during a guided showroom tour. The TÜV Rheinland delegation held focused discussions with BYD on global regulatory trends, ADAS validation, cybersecurity, battery safety, and overseas testing strategies.
This collaboration, spanning more than a decade, has already resulted in key international certifications for BYD, including UN-R155 and UN-R156, EU type approvals, and EPD/LCA assessments for electric buses. Both parties expressed a strong interest in extending their cooperation to cover broader areas such as intelligent driving systems, performance testing, and global market access support, reinforcing BYD’s position in international markets.
Changan: Advancing Smart Mobility and Global Strategy
TÜV Rheinland’s visit to Changan’s Global Intelligent Connected Vehicle Testing Centre offered an in-depth view of the company’s innovations driven by its “new energy, intelligence, and globalization” strategies. Changan presented key milestones in autonomous driving, smart connectivity, and new energy vehicle (NEV) development.
In follow-up discussions, both teams exchanged insights on advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) testing capabilities, EU battery regulations, global regulation update, production conformity (COP) management, and overseas road-testing programs.
Seres: Signing a New Chapter of Strategic Cooperation
TÜV Rheinland and Seres Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen their long-standing partnership. Over the years, the two parties have collaborated across a wide range of areas including export certification of vehicles and components, functional safety, cybersecurity compliance, and market access strategy.
Under the new MoU, TÜV Rheinland will offer comprehensive solutions in testing, certification, inspection, and technical professionals development program. The cooperation will align with Seres’ direction toward internationalization, digital transformation, and green development, supporting its efforts to scale globally with confidence and compliance.
Global Vision for Future Mobility
During an interview with China Daily in Shanghai, Dr. Schubert shared his observations on the development of China’s smart mobility sector and TÜV Rheinland’s role in supporting its global integration. He emphasized the importance of robust testing and regulatory guidance in accelerating the adoption of autonomous driving technologies, ADAS and NEV exports.
He also highlighted TÜV Rheinland’s capabilities, including its ACT Lab in Taicang, Shanghai Aoshen Testing Centre, and the battery testing lab in Aachen, Germany, as key assets in supporting Chinese manufacturers meet international standards and gain market access worldwide.
