EAEU - adopts Decision on Standards Implementing Technical Regulation on RoHS in EEE

On 29 August 2017, the Eurasian Economic Union adopted Decision No. 108 in order to approve the program for the development of interstate standards containing rules and methods for research and measurements, including sampling rules necessary for the application and implementation of the requirements of the technical regulations "On Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (TR EAEU 037/2016).

The Decision introduces the list of standards including rules and methods for research of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. The use of these standards will make it possible to study the level of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybromobiphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in television sets, washing machines and other consumer products. The list contains standards that provide the advanced methods for determining these substances, including X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, cold vapour atomic absorption spectroscopy (CVAAS), cold vapour atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (CVAFS), and others.

Additionally, the Decision provides that Standard STB IEC / PAS 62596-2012 "Electrotechnical products. Determination of the content of substances of limited use - Guide to sampling" applies until 1 July 2019.

Decision No. 108 will enter into force on 30 September 2017, namely 30 days from the date of its official publication.
