TÜV Rheinland joins the Hydrogen JRP community of the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano

Hydrogen is the most common element in the universe. It exists on Earth in almost unlimited quantities.

Water (H2O) itself is a chemical compound made up of hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O). Hydrocarbons, such as methane (CH4) and crude oil, are also important hydrogen-containing compounds.

Today, hydrogen is increasingly a key element for our economy. It is considered one of the energy vectors of the future that can support the decarbonization process.

The Hydrogen Economy is becoming a key topic. In this perspective, partnerships among companies, institutions, universities and research institutes is strategic. In fact, this collaboration can support the development of the hydrogen industry, both in Italy and in the rest of Europe. If hydrogen is generated from renewable sources, then the energy produced respects the environment. Many industrialized Countries have long recognized this potential and have made significant investments in order to create a powerful and efficient hydrogen economy: from the production of green (or other) hydrogen to its storage, transportation and use in a wide range of applications.

The TÜV Rheinland group is playing an active role in the industry, working for making the entire sector safer in all its processes. It means, for example, verifying the safety of the processes, the suitability of the materials, the conformity of the equipment and the "carbon footprint" of the hydrogen produced. For this reason, we at TÜV Rheinland have decided to join the Hydrogen JRP community, an excellence set up by the Fondazione Politecnico di Milano, in order to support the hydrogen industry in Italy.

Hydrogen JRP is a platform developed to promote innovative studies and research on the production of clean hydrogen, as well as associated transport solutions and advanced storage systems. It also promote innovative electrochemical and thermal applications for domestic and industrial use and in transport systems, and the development of best practices in the design and construction of hydrogen transport and storage infrastructures.

The path to a sustainable hydrogen economy presents its challenges. TÜV Rheinland, by joining the Hydrogen JRP community, once again reaffirms its commitment to contribute to shape a future that meets the needs of people and the environment in a sustainable way. And TÜV Rheinland will be able to achieve it with its full range of integrated services including testing, inspection and training.
