Life Cycle Assessments, Carbon Footprint and Environmental Product Declarations

Demonstrate your commitment to environmental sustainability

Choosing climate and environmentally friendly products is increasingly important to consumers, more than half of whom consider a company’s sustainability philosophy when making purchasing decisions. Companies that can prove their production is environmentally sound by means of a neutral test provide their customers with a valuable decision-making aid. Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) serve as the most important tool for process optimization, resulting in a more sustainable production method. A Life Cycle Assessment analyzes energy requirements, raw material consumption, emissions to air, water, soil and waste over the entire life cycle of a product. Companies document their sustainability through an LCA and, in addition, identify optimization potential.

Benefits at a Glance

Product life cycle assessment and carbon footprint determined by the experts at TÜV Rheinland helps you:

  • Identify and reduce a product's potential environmental impact
  • Lower costs by reducing your energy and raw material consumption
  • Build consumer confidence in the quality and safety of your products
  • Gain a tool for process and product optimization
  • Set yourself apart from the competition with an independent third party assessment

Our Services for Carbon Footprint and Lifecycle Assessment

Experts at TUV Rheinland will help you determine the product carbon footprint (PCF), part of your life cycle assessment. This "footprint" tells you how many greenhouse gas emissions your product will generate over its entire lifetime. Improve your market position with a positive life cycle assessment.

Our Approach

We will conduct your LCA according to the DIN EN ISO 14040 and 14044:2006 standards. The assessment comprises four phases:

Scope
We will work with you to define the goal and the scope of your assessment.

Inventory Analysis
For the life cycle inventory analysis, we compile a register of all input and output data.

Impact Assessment
In the impact assessment stage, additional information is drawn into the equation - such as environmental impact. This serves as the basis for the fourth and final phase.

Evaluation
Following the testing period, the conclusions are summarized and you will be provided with a test report. We then proceed forward to certify the study by identifying the methodology used and the resulting data. This is followed by a "critical review" where careful examinations according to the DIN EN ISO 14040 or 14044 standards are conducted. If the results are positive, you will be provided with a certificate.
