India - WPC Equipment Type Approval (ETA)

Products with radio and/or wireless functionalities that are imported, manufactured, or marketed in India are required to obtain an Equipment Type Approval (ETA) certificate from the Wireless Planning Commission (WPC), under the Ministry of Communications, Government of India.
The ETA certification is mandatory for wireless communication devices that operate in de-licensed frequency bands or involve radio frequency (RF) transmission entering the Indian market. There are 2 routes - scrutiny-based ETA, and self-declaration.
- Scrutiny-based ETA: For wireless equipment operating in de-licensed frequency bands but classified under the "Restricted" import category, including radar equipment, RF/cellular jammers, drones and UAVs, satellite communication equipment
- Self-Declaration-based ETA: For wireless products operating in WPC-notified licence-exempt (de-licensed) frequency bands and classified under the "Free" import category including Smartphones and mobile handsets, tablets and laptops, WiFi devices and more.
