The future of vehicle damage reporting has begun

Comprehensive and innovative solutions for reporting vehicle condition

Digital technologies that also use artificial intelligence (AI) offer entirely new opportunities for documenting and evaluating vehicles and vehicle damage. We are therefore systematically developing digital solutions to significantly improve efficiency for fleets and carpools, lessors and lessees, car dealerships, car logistics companies, vehicle manufacturers, and car-sharing platforms. We can then reduce your costs, your effort, and your risks.

One such pioneering and smart application is our adomea scanner. It is already the leading system for automatically detecting and documenting hail damage, and we are now developing it into a technological leader for documenting external vehicle condition. By using artificial intelligence, we will also be able to automatically determine optimal repair procedures and calculate repair costs and decreased values.

Efficiency gains in every area of the automotive industry

Vehicle Manufacturer

For new and nearly new vehicles "in stock" at your company, you can achieve a high level of efficiency and objectivity in controlling the quality of repaired hail damage thereby giving you protection against unwarranted claims. In vehicle logistics, transferring risk can be assured with detailed documentation. In future, the adomea scanner will be able to automatically detect the tiniest of damage on a car’s body shell during final inspection at the factory.

Automobile Logistics

When transporting new and nearly new vehicles you can use the adomea scanner to reliably document vehicle condition at the point of risk transfer. This will help to avert unwarranted claims for damages. If vehicles are damaged by hailstorms during temporary storage, the extent of damage can be automatically determined, and repairs can undergo automatic quality control.

Car Dealerships & Car Companies

Assessing the condition of customer vehicles prior to service and repair work protects you from unwarranted damage claims, e.g. when a customer claims that their vehicle has been damaged while in your company’s possession. Furthermore, automatic documentation provides a high level of security when assigning damage to workshop replacement vehicles, rental and shared vehicles, and in the B2B trade in used vehicles. With the future automated detection and classification of damage, return procedures, such as for leased vehicles, will not only become faster but also the quality of detecting bodywork damage will be enhanced. The scanner is of course already available to automatically detect hail damage to customer vehicles and stored vehicles.

B2B Vehicle Trading

Our innovative adomea scanner is ideally suited to documenting objectively and efficiently the condition of used vehicles in B2B trade. The highest levels of transparency can be achieved, especially in online trading.

Insurers

In mass inspections, e.g. when settling hail damage claims, our scanner delivers objective results quickly and efficiently. The mobile system can also calculate repair costs for paintless repairs.

Leasing Companies

The adomea scanner already provides automated and precise documentation on the condition of a vehicle’s exterior on return at the end of a leasing period. In future, automated detection and classification of existing damage will be available to further revolutionize the entire return process. If your fleet is damaged by hail, you can already efficiently and automatically assess damage and control repair quality.

Car Rental & Sharing

You can keep a continuous and transparent overview on the condition of your fleet throughout rental cycles. By regularly scanning a vehicle during a rental cycle, you can precisely document its condition and allocate damage accordingly. The future automated detection and classification of existing damage will enable you to instantly make damage claims against your customers. You can also benefit from our scan variants in vehicle buy-backs.

Vehicle scanning according to need

Hail scan: Fully automated detection, classification, and documentation of hail dents on a vehicle’s exterior. A connection to costing systems also enables automated calculation of repair costs based on paintless dent repair. You benefit from high levels of efficiency and objectivity in preparing expert assessments as well as controlling quality following repairs to new and nearly new vehicles. This will avoid future disputes.

“Advanced” vehicle scan: The fully automated and detailed documenting of vehicle condition gives assurance when transferring risk. All surface damage is documented via visualization of measured data. In the event of subsequent claims, any damage can be precisely checked for whether it was present at the time of the scan.

Ongoing development of AI modules means additional scan services will be available in the future: “Premium” vehicle scan: In addition to the fully automated and detailed documentation of vehicle condition, the “premium” scan also automatically detects any type of damage. Existing damage can then be quickly and precisely determined and claims instantly made. This saves valuable time in detecting damage, and the scan’s precision is further enhanced so that no surface damage is overlooked.

“Excellence” vehicle scan: In addition to the vehicle condition documentation, "excellence" provides fully automated classification and listing of all surface damage per component. This means that our algorithms not only automatically detect any damage, but also classify it according to type and severity and assign it to individual components. A connection to costing systems enable repair costs and any decreased values to be calculated.

From university project to technological leadership in determining vehicle condition

The system emerged from a project by the TU Dortmund University. In 2012/2013, German and North American insurers were already using it. In 2014, high-resolution cameras were introduced and a year later the 3D model database was significantly expanded thereby further enhancing the scanner's performance. The next major step took place in 2018 with integration of additional AI modules. Today, we are operating eleven mobile devices worldwide, including long-term contracts with European and US insurers.

Automated recording of damage and documenting vehicle condition with unrivaled precision

Simply described, the adomea scanner is a several meters long mobile tunnel with tens of thousands of interior LEDs which can be used to make a wide range of measurement-patterns. After a vehicle has entered through the automatic doors, a sophisticated measuring process detects even the tiniest unevenness in a vehicle’s exterior. 18 high-resolution cameras with a frame rate of 60 fps record the vehicle’s condition in unmatched quality with a measurement resolution of less than 300 µm.

To precisely detect damage and document a vehicle’s condition, the adomea scanner combines different measuring signals: color image, surface curvature, reflectivity. For example, surface norms are used to determine the depth and diameter of dents or other deformations. Combining the measurement signals reveal even minimal alterations on a surface, scratches, stone chips, missing parts, repainting, and even rim damage.

Measuring times are well under one minute per vehicle. Just two more minutes are required for the software to process the data. Presenting the results and further processing via interfaces can be adapted to individual needs.

An important fact: the current hardware is already compatible for future applications so new scan variants can be easily implemented.
